The goal of the project was to develop a production version of the First Responder Workstation application. The application was initially implemented by PSA Inc. as a demo application to create and manage incidents for an agency such as fire departments, police, hospitals or government bodies in response to real world events, including life threatening situations. The application is designed to create networks of interoperable communications, providing text, audio, video, data and telephone connectivity in a secure environment.  

 

The functionality for the mobile application was derived from the features of an existing desktop application. One of the main objectives for the project was to improve usability, quality of voice with using new codec and adding new features such as life video, managing groups of workstations, and adding application security mechanisms.

 

The tools and technologies used in the process:

  • Android SDK & NDK
  • SIP, RTP, VoIP
  • XML
  • Eclipse IDE
  • SVN
  • PassMark, TestLog
  • SeaPine TestTrack Pro

 

From a Project Management Side:

 

Our team used an Agile approach that comprised of:

  • Weekly Status report
  • Weekly Status call
  • Detailed WBS and estimation

 

The Scope of the Project:

  • Requirements definition / detailed storyboarding
  • Software architecture and design
  • GUI design and development
  • Integration of the mobile app with multimedia interoperable platform
  • User group support
  • Test Case definition and Functional testing
  • Implementation of video and audio streaming
  • Secure communications with sever
  • Optimization of text, voice, video exchange for mobile devices
  • Technology transfer and follow-on support
  • The project required a team of 4 engineers for 1 year.
